Ken Crowther

Ken started Crowther Landscapes in 1966 after training with London Parks, and he had a retail nursery for 28 years with his broadcasting career running in parallel. He started at BBC Essex when the station launched in November 1986 and remained as the gardening expert presenter until his departure in December 2020.

Ken founded WorldRadioGardening.com in 2010 and continues to provide hints and tips online. The internet radio station and YouTube Channel attracts thousands of listeners and viewers each year and Ken is

getting near to entering his four decade of helping gardeners.

He has been with City Sound Radio since January 2024 presenting his live gardening phone-in show between 9am and 11am on the third Sunday each month.

Gardening radio presenter, Ken Crowther said:

"I feel it is a real privilege to be able to share my knowledge and skills learned over a lifetime of working in professional horticulture with the radio audience. I look forward to the buzz of receiving listeners emails and WhatsApp messages in the live radio studio of City Sound Radio.

"Gardening is more than just a job for me – I love it! Who would have thought I'd still be able to offer out the sound advice of my father nearly four decades on and say the best broad beans to plant are aquadulce variety.

"In these stressful times, when gardening has become such an important part of life relieving stress and strains affecting people's mental health, it is important to have this type of content available on the internet," he said.
