Having spent my working life in Investment Banking, when I retired in 2005, I decided that volunteering was a thing wanted to have a go at.
I had a number of commitments – Headed up the Volunteer Centre in Hackney, became a trustee of a local mental health charity, continued as a Trustee of a local am/dram company and was also chair of a National Charity.
When I stepped down from my role in Hackney, I was keen to find something else to occupy my time. It just so happened that a guy who had worked for me in the city was the chair of Hospital Radio Chelmsford and he invited me to become a member there. So, in 2012, I began my (now lengthy) association with that charity.
I remain a trustee there and through my semi-religious programme I broadcast on Sunday mornings, I was asked if I would be willing for that programme to be simultaneously broadcast on City Sound. Of course, I was delighted and immediately agreed and so it continues.
