Ian Flavill

I have been very active in the Chelmsford music scene for 20 years specialising in the Country & Americana genres.

Initially started as lead singer/songwriter with Alter States which accidentally morphed into Live gig music promotion and a bit of tour management.

Live/studio performances continued with The Southern Generals and Three Rivers Band.  Two original songs can be found on all streaming platforms by The Southern Generals.

Music promotion continued first at The Bassment Club and then Hot Box. I have hosted bands/artists from all over the world many internationally well known acts within the genre.

In June 2025 I jointly set up Country Roads at ACanteen with Madeline Christy to host acts monthly in a comfortable seated environment.

Allied to the Country Roads sessions at ACanteen I have stared hosting the Country Roads radio show on the second Sunday of each month at 09:00 am on City Sound. This started in January 2025.

The show aims to showcase selected new Country/Americana releases and help promote Live shows that are happening in our region playing tracks from those artists with the aim of having studio guest appearances and interviews going forward. Most of the shows will have a theme to anchor the first hour of the show and I curate songs/artists around the theme. 

Alongside these specific musical priorities I work directly with Culture Chelmsford and Chelmsford For You in my role as a Partner with the Ignite community. This role is about enhancing the role of artists and creates to improve the culture in Chelmsford.
